Who runs Betway

Betway is one of the sportsbook and casino brands of Super Group (SGHC Limited). Super Group's own brand page describes it as a global sportsbook operating under a single brand, with sports betting and casino entertainment. Betway was founded in 2006, has its headquarters in Gżira, Malta, and has offices in London, Guernsey and Cape Town. Super Group went public on the New York Stock Exchange in January 2022 through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company and trades as SGHC.

Betway is well known for its sport sponsorships. Its sponsorships include Manchester United, the NHL, the SA20 cricket league and the Williams Formula One team.

Licensing and track record

In Great Britain, Betway Limited holds Gambling Commission account 39372, with its head office in Gzira, Malta. The register shows remote licences for casino and for real event betting, both active from 1 November 2014, and virtual event betting active from 9 June 2017.

The record is not spotless, and it is fair to say so. The Commission fined Betway a then-record £11.6 million in March 2020 for customer protection and anti-money laundering failings. There was also a 2024 controversy over a €1.3 million bet that Betway declined to pay, citing a site defect. Both are public and several years old, and neither tells you how the site behaves today.

In Canada the licensee is Cadway Limited. iGaming Ontario lists Betway at betway.ca/ontario for casino and sports betting, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation directory lists it as a registered site. Players in Ontario must be 19 or older.

The brand holds licences across many European markets, South Africa and several US states, and it belongs to the European Sports Security Association and the Independent Betting Adjudication Service.
