bwin is an Entain brand registered with iGaming Ontario for sports betting, casino and poker. Read about its history, regulation and safer gambling tools.

We haven't finished our hands-on test of bwin yet, so there's no score. Everything below comes from regulator records, bwin's own published information and the sources linked on this page.

Who runs bwin and where it came from

bwin began in Vienna. It was founded in 1997 by Norbert Teufelberger and Manfred Bodner, launched its online sports betting site in 1998 and listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange in March 2000. It traded as Betandwin until it became bwin in 2006.

The ownership trail is a long one. bwin merged with PartyGaming in 2011 to form bwin.party Digital Entertainment, which was listed in London. GVC Holdings acquired bwin.party in 2016, and GVC was renamed Entain in 2020. Entain describes itself as a sports betting and gaming group operating only in regulated and regulating markets, with more than 30 regulated markets and about 28,000 colleagues,.

For Ontario, the licensee is ElectraWorks Maple Limited.

Licensing and where it works

In Canada, bwin is available only in Ontario. The iGaming Ontario directory lists bwin at on.bwin.ca for casino, poker and sports betting. Ontario's regulator says players must be 19 or older and physically in the province, and that regulated sites should offer protected deposits, paid-out winnings and responsible gambling resources.

bwin is not listed in the Alberta iGaming Corporation directory, so it should not be used there as a regulated option. If you live in another province, this brand is not part of your regulated market.

Sports and betting features

bwin has focused on sports betting from the start. It was Real Madrid's shirt sponsor from 2007 to 2013 and has held partnerships with clubs and competitions across Europe, including the UEFA Europa League and Conference League for the 2021 to 2024 seasons.

Check the Ontario sportsbook for the sports and markets covered and for features such as cash out, bet builder and streaming.

Welcome offer

Check bwin's Ontario promotions page for the current welcome offer. Before you register, read the offer rules, including the minimum deposit, qualifying bet, odds requirement and expiry. Promotional credit is not a way to make money, and nobody should deposit more than they planned just to unlock it.

Payments and apps

Check the cashier for the payment methods, minimums and withdrawal times that apply in Ontario, and expect identity checks before your first withdrawal.

Safer gambling and who it suits

ConnexOntario offers support on 1-866-531-2600 for Ontario players. Check the account settings for deposit limits and time-outs, and consider the province's self-exclusion options if gambling stops being fun.

bwin suits Ontario players who recognise the European brand and want a licensed site covering sports, casino and poker. Anyone outside Ontario cannot use the regulated Canadian version.
