Coral is a UK Gambling Commission-licensed bookmaker run by Entain, with cash out, Bet Builder and racing offers. Read our facts-first review.

We haven't finished our hands-on test of Coral yet, so there's no score. Everything below comes from regulator records, Coral's own published information and the sources linked on this page.

Who runs Coral and where it comes from

Coral is one of the oldest names in British betting. Joe Coral started out with betting pitches at racecourses and greyhound stadiums, and opened his first licensed betting office in 1961. The company was founded in 1926.

The ownership trail since then is long. Gala bought Coral Eurobet in 2005 to form Gala Coral Group. Ladbrokes acquired that group in 2016, and GVC Holdings took over Ladbrokes Coral in 2018. GVC is now Entain, which describes itself as one of the world's largest sports betting and gaming groups and lists Coral as a UK and Ireland retail brand.

So the online sportsbook sits alongside a high street network, which is a big part of how Coral gets recognised.

Licensing and safety

Coral's UK online business is operated by LC International Limited, whose head office is in Gibraltar. The company holds a remote licence from the UK Gambling Commission (account 54743, licence 054743-R-330863-015). The register shows it as active from 1 July 2019 for general betting on real and virtual events, pool betting, betting intermediary, bingo and casino.

The Gambling Commission register lists no regulatory actions against the licensee. Coral also publishes a Game Fairness and Security page in its help centre.

Sports and markets

The Coral iPhone listing names football, horse racing, greyhounds, tennis, basketball, boxing and rugby, with in-play odds on offer. Racing is a clear strength. The listing says Best Odds Guaranteed applies on UK and Irish horse racing and on UK greyhound races, and that greyhound races can be watched live in the app.

The help centre also covers ante-post betting. It explains that an ante-post bet is placed on a future event and is usually all in, so it loses if the selection does not run, even if that selection had not yet been entered.

Cash out and bet builder

Cash out lets you settle a bet before the event has finished. Coral says the offer is based on your original price and the current price, so it can differ from the price you took. A single bet can be cashed out for up to £50,000 including stake.

Coral also tells customers not to place a bet expecting to cash out later. The button can be greyed out if a market is suspended, if the value would be £0, if the bet includes ineligible markets, or if an accumulator has more than 20 selections (14 for a bet builder). Bets using bonuses such as Lucky 15, 31 and 63, or enhanced prices, are not eligible.

The app listing says the football Bet Builder covers over 100 leagues and competitions. It also mentions a Daily Reward Shaker, an Odds Booster and free-to-play Super Series games.

Payments and withdrawals

Coral's help centre lists Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Pay by Bank, bank transfer and paysafecard under its payment methods. Check the cashier for which of these can be used for withdrawals and the minimum deposit for each.

Coral's help pages add that UK customers cannot use credit cards, and the maximum deposit is £2,000 per transaction across all methods. You can have three active payment methods over a rolling 30 days. Methods must be in your own name, because third-party payments can lead to a frozen account. Visa deposits show in your account within one to two minutes with no fee, and PayPal deposits are free.

Withdrawal times range from instantly to five banking days depending on the method, on top of Coral's internal processing time. To withdraw to PayPal you need to have made a successful PayPal deposit in the last six months.

App and site

The iPhone app is published by Entain and rated 18+. The listing showed version 26.10.16, updated on 22 October, and an average of 4.7 from about 70,000 ratings. It needs iOS or iPadOS 18.0 or later.

As always, rating averages come from users and say little about how a bookmaker handles verification or withdrawals. Read the recent reviews on the store page too.

Who it suits

Coral looks most useful for people who bet on horse racing and greyhounds and want a bookmaker with a long history and a retail presence. Anyone who wants to fund an account with a credit card will need another route, as Coral does not accept them in the UK.

If you do bet, set a deposit limit first. The help centre has a deposit limits page. 18+. Gamble responsibly.
