Who runs Mise-o-jeu+

Mise-o-jeu is the sports betting offering of Loto-Québec. Loto-Québec is a Crown corporation owned by the Government of Quebec. The Government of Quebec created it in 1969 to run legal games of chance in the province, and that it launched its Espacejeux online gaming site on 1 December 2010.

Mise-o-jeu+ is the web address for the online sportsbook, at miseojeuplus.espacejeux.com.

Licensing and availability

There is no private licence to look up here. Quebec is a provincial monopoly market, and Loto-Québec itself is both the operator and the party that conducts and manages the games. Quebec is the only province, so this review applies to people in Quebec only.

Loto-Québec displays a World Lottery Association certification at level 4 on its Mise-o-jeu page. That is a responsible gaming programme certification rather than a licence.

Sports and bet types

The Mise-o-jeu page lists upcoming matches in basketball, combat sports including mixed martial arts, football (NFL), hockey, soccer and tennis. Single bets, called paris simples, let you pick one prediction.

Every outcome has a five-digit prediction number and set odds. You can add several predictions to a selection by clicking them, odds multiply for combined selections, and the potential gain shown is the stake multiplied by the total odds. The prediction numbers are what you use on a paper selection slip at a Loto-Québec retailer where that option is offered.

How betting works online

To buy a bet online you need an Espacejeux account on Loto-Québec's gaming site, and existing members log in at the top right of the page. Loto-Québec says it may change odds at any time, that the odds applicable at the time of the transaction take precedence, and that its computer figures govern potential gains and official results.

The format is simple singles and combined selections, so check the site for any extras such as cash out or promotions.

Safer gambling and support

The Mise-o-jeu page links to Jeu : aide et référence on 1-800-461-0140 and to aidejeu.ca. If gambling is causing you problems, those are the first places to call or visit. Only bet money you can afford to lose, and use any limit tools offered in your account.

Who it suits

Mise-o-jeu+ suits Quebec residents who prefer a government-run operator and a simple singles-and-combinations betting format. It will not suit anyone outside Quebec.
