PlayNow is the Crown-run online sportsbook for British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with live betting and a first deposit bonus bet offer.

We haven't finished our hands-on test of PlayNow yet, so there's no score. Everything below comes from regulator records, PlayNow's own published information and the sources linked on this page.

Who runs PlayNow and how it began

PlayNow is not a private bookmaker. It is the government-run gambling site for three western provinces. In British Columbia it is owned and operated by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), a Crown corporation. The Manitoba version is operated by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, and the Saskatchewan version by the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA).

It launched in 2004 to sell BCLC lottery products online. Casino games arrived in July 2010, and it is described as the first legal online casino in Canada. Poker followed in 2011, Manitoba joined in January 2013, and single-event sports betting started in June 2021 after the federal law changed. Saskatchewan was added in November 2022.

Licensing and safety

Because PlayNow is run by provincial Crown operators, there is no private licence number to look up. Instead, each province has its own operator, and each site is open only to people physically in that province. The PlayNow site says it is the official gaming site for British Columbia residents and is available exclusively to players located in BC, with matching versions for Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The BC help centre says you must be 19 or older to register. Since April 2026, oversight in BC has been handled by the Independent Gambling Control Office, which replaced the former Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. The BC site uses independent age and residency checks.

Sports betting

PlayNow Sports offers live betting alongside football, hockey, basketball, soccer, tennis and golf, plus novelty and special bets. The site homepage also sells lottery tickets, casino games, poker and bingo, so sports is one section of a larger product, not a stand-alone sportsbook.

If cash out, a bet builder or live streaming matter to you, look at an event page on PlayNow before you register.

Welcome offer

PlayNow's sports offer is a first deposit match worth up to $250 in bonus bets, for first-time depositors in BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. You make a single deposit of $10 to $250, then bet through that deposit amount. Once you have, the site issues bonus bets equal to your deposit, in five equal parts of 20% each. A $250 deposit therefore gives five $50 bonus bets.

The pages also say only winnings from a free bet are returned, not the bet itself, and that the offer cannot be combined with other offers. The promo codes shown differ between provinces, so read the conditions on the page for your province, including any expiry, before depositing.

Deposits and withdrawals

The minimum deposit is $5, according to the help centre. PlayNow accepts debit cards, which become your Quick Deposit card at no fee, plus Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards, which some issuers treat as a cash advance. Interac e-Transfer works with over 250 financial institutions at no fee. Interac Online is available for select institutions, and PayPal needs a confirmed card in your PayPal account. Web Cash vouchers and online bill payment are also listed.

Withdrawals work differently. Money goes to your bank account by electronic funds transfer, and BCLC asks you to allow up to three business days for processing, followed by about one business day for the bank. You can reverse a pending withdrawal until midnight Pacific time. Your occupation is required before your first withdrawal under federal anti-money laundering rules.

Account limits, support and safer gambling

PlayNow sets some firm limits. Balances above $250,000 must be reduced within 72 hours, and a single online bill payment over $100,000 is rejected. You choose your own weekly deposit limit in $1 steps up to $100,000, and increases take about 24 hours to apply.

Customer support is by phone on 1-877-706-6789 and live chat. For problem gambling, the site links to GameSense and gives the BC Gambling Support line on 1-888-795-6111. Game Break is a self-exclusion program lasting six months, one, two or three years. You can start it online, in person at a casino, community gaming centre or bingo hall, or by video call with a GameSense Advisor. It closes your account, and cash over $5 is paid to your bank account on file.

Who PlayNow suits

PlayNow suits people in BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan who want a provincially run option and like having lottery, casino and sports in one login. It is a broad provincial product rather than a specialist sportsbook, so check the event pages for the features you want.
