Sky Bet is a UK sportsbook licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Read about its features, payments, safer gambling tools and new customer offer.
We haven't finished our hands-on test of Sky Bet yet, so there's no score. Everything below comes from regulator records, Sky Bet's own published information and the sources linked on this page.
Who runs Sky Bet and where it came from
Sky Bet is one of the best-known names in British betting. Its roots go back to the early 2000s, when BSkyB bought Sports Internet Group in July 2000. The Surrey Sports business inside that group was rebranded as Sky Bet in 2002, and in 2006 the company folded in Total Bet and UK Betting after buying 365 Media Group.
Ownership has changed a few times since. Sky sold around 80% of the business to CVC Capital Partners for £600 million in 2015, keeping a 20% stake and a long-term licence to use the Sky brand. The Stars Group agreed to buy it in 2018 for £3.4 billion, and Flutter Entertainment acquired it in 2020. Flutter still lists Sky Bet among its brands and uses the Sky name under licence from Sky Limited.
Licensing and safety
Sky Bet is run by SBG Sports Limited, which holds UK Gambling Commission account number 67370. The Commission's public register shows four active remote licences for the company, all starting on 6 October 2025: general betting standard on real events, general betting standard on virtual events, pool betting and gambling software. The head office on the register is in St. Julians, Malta.
That register entry is the first thing worth checking with any UK bookmaker. It tells you who is responsible for your account and which activities they are allowed to offer. Sky Bet customers must be 18 or over, and the app listing says the service is for the UK and Ireland only.
Sports, markets and betting features
The Sky Bet app listing names football, horse racing, tennis, cricket, boxing, darts and NFL among the sports covered, with in-play markets available every day. Football is clearly the centre of attention, and the help centre has pages on Opta-based stat markets, VAR rules, xG and player not starting.
There is a decent toolkit around the bets themselves. Sky Bet's help pages describe Cash Out, which lets you settle a bet before the event finishes, along with BuildABet for assembling your own football bet and RequestABet for asking for something more specific. AccaFreeze locks in a winning leg in-play on match result accumulators of five or more legs. Price Boosts offer enhanced odds on selected football events, with a maximum stake. Squad Bet, Enhanced Accumulators and handicap markets sit alongside the standard bet types.
Horse racing fans get a best odds price promise (BOG) from 9am on race day, Non Runner No Bet, Extra Places promotions and Rule 4 explanations in the help centre. Sky Bet also publishes a maximum winnings policy, so it is worth reading it before placing a large bet because a daily cap applies per sport regardless of stake.
Live streaming and the app
Sky Bet's app listing describes Bet and Watch, which gives free live streams of qualifying UK and Irish horse races and selected football matches. The help centre also mentions Watch and Bet, with live video on desktop and in the app. Live match notifications can send alerts about open bets to your phone.
The iPhone app needs iOS 16 or later and supports Apple Pay and Face ID or Touch ID. An Android app is also available. Matchday Assist, a daily set of football offers, and Sky Bet Club, which carries promotions for regular customers, are shown inside the app according to the store listing.
Welcome offer and promotions
The Sky Bet App Store listing currently advertises a new customer offer of £30 in free sports bets after placing a bet, with terms and conditions applying. Check the minimum stake, odds, qualifying markets and expiry on the Sky Bet offer page before you sign up, because these details change often.
Beyond the welcome offer, the listing refers to weekly Price Boosts on over 250 markets and free bets for Sky Bet Club members. Free bets are not cash, and the stake is normally not returned with winnings, so read how each one works before using it.
Deposits and withdrawals
Sky Bet's help centre lists Pay by Bank, Revolut Pay and payment cards for deposits, and a separate article covers third party payment methods. On the withdrawal side, the help pages give clear timings. Pay by Bank withdrawals should show up in your bank immediately, with a £5 minimum. Revolut Pay is usually instant with no minimum.
Card withdrawals come in two types. Instant withdrawals to Visa and participating Mastercard cards should arrive within one to four hours, although Sky Bet says in rare cases it can take longer. Cards that are not eligible take two to five working days, and bank holidays do not count. Apple Pay can be used for withdrawals only to a card you previously deposited from with Apple Pay. The help centre also warns that net deposits can stop a withdrawal going to your preferred method.
Safer gambling tools and who it suits
Sky Bet's safer gambling page lists deposit controls, cool-off for up to 30 days, self-exclusion from six months to five years or permanently, time limits, reality checks and transfer limits. You can also restrict promotions and bonuses. The page explains how self-exclusions apply across Flutter group brands and mentions GamProtect, a scheme for sharing information between operators to protect people showing high-risk behaviour.
On paper, Sky Bet suits football fans who like building their own bets or accumulators, and racing followers who value free streams and the race day price protections. It is a mainstream bookmaker rather than a specialist, and it is only open to UK and Irish customers. We haven't finished our own hands-on test yet, so these notes reflect what Sky Bet says it offers.
