Who runs 888casino and its history
888casino is the casino brand of evoke plc, the Gibraltar-based group formerly called 888 Holdings. Evoke describes it as one of the first online casinos, founded in 1997. The parent company began as Virtual Holdings in the same year, moved its administrative centre to Gibraltar in 2003 and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2005.
The group announced a change of name to evoke in March 2024, after buying William Hill for £1.95 billion in 2022. Press reports in July 2026 said Bally's Intralot was moving closer to acquiring evoke, so the ownership line may change.
Licensing and safety
In Great Britain, 888casino operates under UK Gambling Commission licence 39028, held by 888 UK Limited. The licence is listed on the Commission's public register. The minimum age for online gambling in Great Britain is 18, and licensed operators must take part in GAMSTOP, the national self-exclusion scheme.
In Canada, 888casino is listed as a regulated operator in Ontario, under AGCO registration and an agreement with iGaming Ontario, and in Alberta, under AGLC registration and the Alberta iGaming Corporation. Rules that apply to UK players
