How online casinos are regulated in Canada
Each province decides how online casinos work within its borders:
- Ontario (open market since 4 April 2022). Private casinos register with the AGCO and sign an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. OLG also runs an online casino at OLG.ca.
- Alberta (open market since 13 July 2026). Private casinos register with AGLC and sign an agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The province’s own Play Alberta site continues alongside them.
- British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The legal online casino is PlayNow, run by the provincial lottery and gaming bodies.
- Quebec. Loto-Québec runs the legal online casino through Espacejeux.
Regulated casinos must verify your age, use certified games, protect player funds and offer tools like deposit limits and self-exclusion. Offshore casinos that target Canadians without a provincial registration offer none of those protections, and we don’t list them.
How we picked these casinos
Every casino on this page appears in iGaming Ontario’s list of regulated operators, the Alberta iGaming Corporation’s directory of registered sites, or is a provincial lottery corporation’s own casino. Each listing shows the provinces where it’s regulated.
The list is in our editorial order until our hands-on tests are complete. Then each casino gets a score out of 10 from our rating method.
What to compare between Canadian casinos
Games and live dealer tables
Look for a good mix of slots, jackpots, blackjack, roulette and live dealer games from established studios. Regulated Ontario casinos also publish game rules and return-to-player information.
Payments
Interac e-Transfer is the most popular payment method at Canadian casinos. Check withdrawal times, limits and any fees before you deposit.
Bonuses
Ontario rules stop casinos from advertising bonuses publicly, so offers are shown once you’re on the casino’s site. Check wagering requirements, which games count, the maximum bet while a bonus is active and the time limit.
