DraftKings is a licensed US and Canadian sportsbook and casino with same-game parlays and live betting. See state and province availability and key facts.

We haven't finished our hands-on test of DraftKings yet, so there's no score. Everything below comes from regulator records, DraftKings's own published information and the sources linked on this page.

Who runs DraftKings

DraftKings was founded in Boston in 2012 by Jason Robins, Matt Kalish and Paul Liberman, and began as a daily fantasy sports business. Its US sportsbook launched in New Jersey in August 2018.

It became a public company on Nasdaq on 24 April 2020 under the ticker DKNG, after a reverse merger that brought in SBTech, a sports betting technology supplier. It bought Golden Nugget Online Gaming in May 2022. Products now include the sportsbook, online casino and fantasy sports.

Licensing by state and province

In the US there is no single licence. DraftKings operates through state entities, such as Crown NC Gaming, LLC, Crown IA Gaming LLC, Crown Ohio Gaming, LLC and Crown KY Gaming LLC, all trading as DraftKings. Its App Store listing also shows a Connecticut licence number (OGO.000003).

State regulator records put the sportsbook in Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Wyoming. Availability can change, so check your state's regulator.

In Canada, DraftKings operates in Ontario (AGCO and iGaming Ontario) and Alberta (AGLC and Alberta iGaming Corporation) through Crown DK CAN Ltd. It launched its sportsbook and casino in Ontario on 18 May 2022.

Sports and betting features

The App Store listing says the sportsbook covers NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, soccer, golf, UFC and MMA, boxing, motorsports, esports and college sports. Bet types include moneylines, parlays and player props.

Two features stand out in the listing. Live betting offers spreads, moneylines, totals and in-game odds as the game unfolds, and Same-Game Parlays let you combine items such as game totals and touchdown scorers in one ticket. The Ontario launch release also named same-game parlays and mentioned the DraftKings Dynasty Rewards programme.

Cash out and live streaming are not mentioned in the listing, so check the app for them.

Other products in the app

The same app also carries DraftKings Racing and DraftKings Predictions. The listing says these operate separately from the sportsbook under different regulations, so they are not covered in this review.

Prediction markets are not state-licensed sportsbooks, and we do not treat them as part of our regulated listing.

Promotions

DraftKings runs frequent new-customer promotions that differ by state and expire quickly. Check the live offer for your state before you sign up.

The App Store listing notes that bonus rewards are single-use, non-withdrawable, non-refundable and have no cash value. Read the terms for your state before you opt in.

App, age and responsible gambling

The iPhone app, DraftKings: Sports & Casino, showed version 5.55.1 released on 23 October, 4.8 from about 1.4 million ratings, and a minimum age of 21 (18 in DC, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico and Wyoming). It lists helplines including 1-800-GAMBLER and 1-800-MY-RESET, with state-specific resources for several states.

User reviews on the listing include complaints about live betting, bonus terms and customer service. Those are user views, not verified facts. In Canada the Ontario launch release described responsible gaming as a pillar of its S.E.R.V.E.S. programme.

Who it suits

DraftKings suits people in a licensed US state or in Ontario or Alberta who want a mainstream sportsbook with same-game parlays and live betting. Availability depends on where you are, so check the state or province before you sign up.

We haven't finished our own hands-on test yet, so there is no score. Bet only what you can afford to lose and set limits first. 21+ in most US states, with age limits varying by state and province. Help in the US: 1-800-GAMBLER.
