Play Alberta is the AGLC government-run site for Alberta, with NHL and CFL betting, live betting and a $200 sports bonus bet offer for new players 18+.
We haven't finished our hands-on test of Play Alberta yet, so there's no score. Everything below comes from regulator records, Play Alberta's own published information and the sources linked on this page.
Who runs Play Alberta
Play Alberta is the official online gambling site of the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), part of the Government of Alberta. The site is run by NeoPollard Interactive under the direction and management of AGLC. For almost two decades it was the only legal online gambling site in the province.
That changed on 13 July 2026, when Alberta's regulated iGaming market opened to private operators. Play Alberta became one option among many, and existing accounts stayed active with no need to register again. The Play Alberta app on the App Store, published by AGLC, now covers sports, casino and lottery in one place.
Regulation and safety
Play Alberta is run by the regulator's own operating arm, so there is no separate private licence to look up. Online gambling in Alberta is described on the site as regulated by AGLC and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC). You must be 18 or older and located in Alberta to play.
Player protections include GameSense information, the AGLC self-exclusion program with selectable terms and account limits. Play Alberta must also connect to AGLC's centralised self-exclusion system, as all licensed operators must, and that players get activity statements and financial and time-based limit tools. The App Store listing says the app has age verification and responsible gambling tools.
Sports betting
The App Store listing says the sportsbook covers the NHL, NBA, NFL, CFL and MLB, with live betting and real-time scores. The Play Alberta website also has beginner guides on topics like decimal odds, bet types and NHL playoff betting. Local interest shows up in promotions too, with the sports welcome offer built around Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames themed bonus spins.
If cash out, a bet builder or live streaming matter to you, look at an event page before signing up. Rivals launched in the province in July 2026, and some have deeper sportsbooks and larger casino libraries.
Welcome offer for sports
Play Alberta's current sports offer is $200 in Sports Bonus Bets plus 40 bonus spins on Cash Eruption Edmonton Oilers / Calgary Flames. You enter the code 200INSPORTSBETS with a first deposit of at least $20. The page says there is no wagering on the Bonus Bets, while the bonus spins carry a 1x requirement. The offer expires on 8 December 2026.
It is for new players only, aged 18 or over and located in Alberta. Welcome bonuses can be claimed once per player on your first deposit with a promo code. Check the full terms on playalberta.ca, because a bonus bet usually returns only winnings and not the stake.
Payments and withdrawals
The App Store listing promises quick and secure banking for deposits and withdrawals, and the Play Alberta guide says the site offers safe and secure payment methods. The My Account area is where banking is handled.
Check the banking page in your account for current options, limits and processing times before you deposit. Expect identity checks before your first withdrawal, as with any regulated operator.
App and support
The Play Alberta Casino and Sports app is free on iPhone and requires iOS 17.6 or later. AGLC is listed as the developer, and the app has a 4.3 out of 5 rating from around 5,000 ratings on the App Store. A newer version added support for exclusive games.
Help content is available at playalberta.ca/help, covering account and banking questions. The site links to GameSense and AGLC self-exclusion, and the responsible gambling tools, including loss and spending limits, are in My Account.
Who Play Alberta suits
Play Alberta suits Albertans who like the idea of a provincially run site, or who already have an account from before July 2026. Its welcome bonus bets without wagering are a clear selling point.
We haven't finished our own hands-on test yet, so compare it with the other regulated Alberta sites on odds, speed and markets before choosing.
